Given the cost of inbred strains of mice, such as Balb/C, could one use a cheaper, outbred strain and still consider the data reliable as longer as a comparison is not made between different strains? Perplexed

Our laboratory at UTHSCSA (John Graybill and Tom Patterson) has done extensive work comparing Balb/C mice with ICR outbred mice (cheaper) comparing aspergillus infection.  There was really no difference in the infection at all.    Smiley

Great, Thanks. I presume the cost is quite a bit lower?

According to our Project manager, ICR mouse will run you about $4.55 U.S. vs Balb/C's which will cost $8.00 through NCI or 19.00 through Charles River.
